The Members 5th Studio Album The title track, a reggae lament, is about the gentrification of London and the social cleansing of the capital. Other tracks like “Robin Hood in Reverse” touch on topical themes of austerity. As always with the Members there’s mordant humour amidst the shade. From the deadpan Baltic reggae of “Nightshift” - about life in a band - to the jangly guitar pop of “Black Dog” and drug induced depression, JC Carroll, the creative driving force behind the original Members, writes songs tinged with sadness, regret and sardonic wit. The catchy pop of “Emotional Triggers” contrasts the distracted digital modern life with the exuberance of his 20th century youth. “Incident in Surbiton” marks the birth of a new genre - deadpan disco - with a commuter’s suicide note to his wife.
