In March 2021 The Members release their 8th Studio album ”Greetings From Knowhere”
Greetings from Knowhere” is the eighth studio album by The Members. J C Carroll, Chris Payne and Nigel Bennett with drummer Nick Cash have made a fantastic album. Since reforming in 2008 the band have been steadily releasing interesting and innovative material. The lead single from the last album “Bedsitland’ hit the No1 Spot in the influential “Heritage Chart in 2022. What sets The Members apart is a refusal to roll out the obligatory cliches and a willingness to push the envelope with challenging songwriting and innovative instrumental ideas…. The title track (and first single) of the album. “The Boy from Knowhere” is a lyrical study of negativity wrapped up in a Bowie / Mott the Hoople style glam rock packaging. Like everything with The Members, it asks more questions, then it answers. Who is the boy from nowhere? how can he come home if he doesn’t come from anywhere? This track (and the rest of the album) showcases JC Carroll’s songwriting at its very best. Chris Payne and Nick Cash provide a structure and Post Punk architecture that underscores the project. The album features vignettes of Psychobilly (in the excellent “In The time B4 the Smart Phone” )1960s spy film surf music , crazy Balkan reggae and some tasty guitar playing from Nigel Bennett and JC Carroll. Supersession player and Members mate Guy Pratt adds immaculate bass playing to the title track and a Santana style Reggaeton jam called “Don’t Lie to Me”, hidden on the second side of the vinyl is a wonderful piece of country-punk called Time-Bomb that would not be out of place on a Ramones album. With a gatefold sleeve by New Wave art Legend Malcolm “Images and Co” Garrett MBE. This is not an album for hard-core punk fans, this is an album for people that love quality tunage, humour, variety, and can appreciate The Members originality and uncompromising uniqueness. The Boys From Knowhere have definitely come home! “Greetings From Knowhere” is released on April 20th 2024 Record Store Day on CD Vinyl and digital. .
